    Description

FABULOUS ANTIQUE WILLCOX & GIBBS CHAIN STITCH CAST IRON SEWING MACHINE WITH ELECTRIC MOTOR
Willcox & Gibbs first started making sewing machines in 1858 and the serial number (19077) on this machine will date it to an early period but it uses an electric motor, so the correct age is really unknown. The patent dates on the machine indicate it was granted patents in the 1870s and 1880s. This is a fabulous antique Willcox & Gibbs machine made of cast iron.  The cord is quite old and not suitable for me to test, so I do not know the working condition but the decals and designs on the machine are in great condition.  We have paperwork, which we will provide,  indicating it was worked on and a few parts replaced in 1939.  The machine is small, about 10" tall, 15" long and about 6" deep.  We are missing any accessories, a case and a foot pedal for operation and we presume the new owner will want to replace the aged cord. Visually, the machine is in great antique condition. It weighs about 20 pounds, so is not a lightweight machine.  Advertisements from the era described it as noiseless.
