Description
GRITZNER ANTIQUE SEWING MACHINE, HAND CRANK @1890I have had this sewing machine since 1975. That is when I picked it up from a small second-hand shop in Treysa, Germany. I was in the Army and have carried it around with me ever since. I believe it dates to about 1890. This is an exceptionally fine piece of equipment and still fully functional. Has mother of pearl inlays on the body/frame and wood inlays on the base and cover. I have been watching other sewing machines on ebay, etc. and they are garbage compared to this unit. Please note there is no key to unlock the case so you have to open it by slipping a knife between the case and base. It is easy to do. Otherwise, an extraordinary example of fine German engineering and craftsmanship.
Photos were taken after application of Old English. It is important to keep the wood from drying out to avoid shrinking and cracking.
Shipping this machine is going to be a challenge. I plan to send it in two boxes with the cover in one and the sewing machine in another. They will have to be very securely packed like electronics and this is going to require time and materials. There will be a handling charge for this. Also, the shipment must be insured so make shipping calculations accordingly. Ebay requires that I enter a shipping weight and dimensions but these are guesses. The machine itself weighs 25 pounds. The cover is another 4 pounds. Overall size is 18 x 12 x 11 but this is just a fraction of the actual shipping size. That is why it is important for us to make contact and discuss shipping before you make the purchase.
Please contact me before purchasing to insure we understand and agree what is involved.
