    Raymond Sewing Machine
We are pleased to offer this fresh Western NY estate find 1860s - 1870s Nettleton & Raymond Hand crank Cast Iron Sewing Machine, Brattleboro Vermont. Approximately 10 1/2" long with handle, 8" tall, with a 5 3/4" diameter crank wheel. The name New England collectively refers to many machines made during the 1860's & 1870s that look quite similar, but were made by a variety of companies and sold as "COMMON SENSE" or "FAMILY" sewing machines. All these produced a single thread chain stitch, utilizing Charles Raymond's 1861 patent for a reciprocating hook. No serial numbers were used, so no one really knows how many of each style were produced.  Overall EXCELLENT condition for 160 year old machine. Everything seems to be freely moving and working.  The crank handle is missing some wood as seen in the photo, otherwise I believe everything to be perfect.  The decorative paint is still mostly present, see pictures for condition details. Please ask any questions that you may have.
