rare old antique sewing machine. The cast iron sewing machine is the Brunonia model made by Bremer & Bruckmann in Brunswick, Germany. Bremer & Bruckmann was in business from 1871 to 1922 and specialized in children's sewing machines, small chain stitch machines and domestic sewing machines. Their most popular models were the Liliput and Colibri. The Brunonia model was one of the first models of sewing machines to be produced by Bremer & Bruckmann, making this model a hard to find machine. Dating to the early to mid 1880s, this machine feature an ornate designed base with striped patterned, claw-like legs. In the center is a bell shape with two tassels on either side. The top of the platform has a gorgeous, ornate pattern around the edges and in the center. Nice, intricate detailing is present throughout the pattern. Some of the original red and gold paint is present on the pattern as well, a majority of which is in the center. The base of the machine is completed with a cast iron arm and metal mechanics. In the top center of the arm is an ornate medallion. At the side of the machine is a large crank with a wooden handle. The crank moves easily but could use some oiling to get it turning smoother. The needle will move up and down when the crank is turned. The machine appears to be complete and in usable condition. The top of the needle (or slide) plate bares the "Original Brunonia" insignia, though it is hard to read. On the underside of the machine a partial serial number can be seen. These numbers are 292. Guaranteed to be antique. This very hard to find machine would make a great addition to any sewing memorabilia collection! A fun machine to use for small repairs or projects!
Some light paint wear is present on the base and top platform. Typical wear from age and use. No dents, dings or breaks. Overall in VERY GOOD condition. Please refer to the photos for the absolute best details.
Measures 17 3/8" from the side edge to the end of the crank handle, 9" deep at the legs and 10 1/2" tall.
