Description
Vintage Antique Singer Chain Stitch Sewing Machine Model 24 1890s.Here for sale is neat little antique Singer sewing machine, based on the serial number, it was made by Singer in New Jersey in the 1890's. (8 digit, approximately 12.8 million and no letters). This appears to be a bit of a rare model, industrial in design and function and what I believe to be a Singer model 24 class with manual tension and manual and perhaps treadle power at home or in a manufacturing environment. It has been used a lot but other wise appears to be all intact. I can't say for sure as I am not an expert and could not find any reference to this specific model pictorially. This is a chain stitch model. So petite (8.5" high, 10" long and 9" wide at widest) but this is not a toy or salesman's sample but an example of what our underclothes were probably stitched on up until the 70's or even later!
Condition: This machine is basically how I found it which I would say is very good antique, well used but not abused. It has stored well. The machine was not rusty with exception of the flat pan (sewing surface) and the usual bit on the base. All minor, I did one application of rust removal on the pan, the surface is not smooth there. I wiped the machine down with mineral oil and lubed moving parts with a drop of triflow. The tension nut turned/turns freely. The machine sits level. The machine was repainted black I think. There is a few small chips on the wheel well (left of wheel) on either side, see pics. The wheel turns smoothly and the needle goes up and down. I do not see any cracks or other major damages. I have not tested this as I don't know how to use it (depressing the top bar at the furthest end lifts the pressure foot up but I do not know how it works otherwise). I am selling as is, as found basically. Any questions, please ask before purchase, I'll do my best to answer.
Shipping/handling: I consider this to be fragile. This machine will be packed in high density foam and double boxed. The final dimension of the package will be a larger box. This package will ship tracked, fully insured USPS Priority with receipt confirmation.
Please review my photos and ask questions before you buy because I don't accept returns. I am glad to help and want you to love your purchase. My photos count as part of my description. This is a vintage item and I am selling it "as is". I package carefully and ship quickly. I do consider this item as fragile, it will be wrapped extra well. This machine will ship in a box, insured with tracking. Thank you for looking!
